Local SEO in Dubai: a practical guide for 2026
Local SEO in Dubai is the work of making your business appear when people nearby search for what you sell: in Google's map pack, in Google Maps and in the ordinary results below them. Google says local results are based mainly on three things, relevance, distance and prominence. In practice that means a complete Google Business Profile, business details that match everywhere they appear, a steady flow of genuine reviews and pages that answer what Dubai customers actually search for.
What is local SEO and how does it work in Dubai?
Local SEO covers every search where the location matters to the answer: 'dentist near me', 'car service Al Quoz', 'accountant in Business Bay'. For these searches Google usually shows a map with three businesses, the local pack, above the normal results.
Google's own help pages describe the three factors. Relevance is how well your profile matches the search. Distance is how far you are from the searcher or the place named in the search. Prominence is how well known your business is, drawn from reviews, links, articles and directory listings across the web. You cannot change distance, so the work goes into relevance and prominence.
Dubai adds its own patterns. Searches often name an area rather than the city (JLT, Dubai Marina, Deira, DIFC), customers search in English and Arabic, and many enquiries end in a WhatsApp message or a call rather than a form. Your profile and site should be ready for all three.
How do you set up a Google Business Profile in Dubai?
- Claim or create the profile at business.google.com using an email address the business controls, not a personal one that leaves with a staff member.
- Use your real business name exactly as customers see it. Google's guidelines do not allow keywords or locations added to the name, and profiles that do it can be suspended.
- Choose the primary category carefully. It is one of the strongest relevance signals. Pick the most specific category that describes the core of the business, then add secondary ones sparingly.
- Set the address or service area. If customers visit you, show the address as it appears on your trade licence. If you go to them, set a service area and hide the address.
- Complete verification. Google decides which methods are offered, and they can include a video recording of the premises, a phone call or an email.
- Fill in everything else: opening hours, a +971 phone number, services with descriptions, real photos of the team, premises and work, and the website link to the most relevant page.
Why do consistent business details matter?
Your name, address and phone number (often shortened to NAP) appear on your website, your profile, Apple Business Connect, Bing Places, social profiles and directories. When they match, search engines can be confident they all describe one business. When they conflict, that confidence drops.
Addresses in the UAE need extra care because there is no postcode system like the UK's. Write the address the same way everywhere: unit, building, street, area, city. In Dubai you can also give the Makani number, the 10-digit geographic address Dubai Municipality assigns to building entrances, which helps customers and couriers find you.
| Local factor | What Google means | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Relevance | How well the profile matches the search | Precise categories, full services list, area pages on the site |
| Distance | How close you are to the searcher or named place | Accurate address or service area; nothing else |
| Prominence | How well known the business is | Genuine reviews, local press, links from relevant UAE sites |
How do reviews affect local rankings in Dubai?
Google states that high-quality, positive reviews can improve a business's visibility, and that replying to reviews shows you value customers.
Ask every customer, not just the happy ones you choose. Google's policies prohibit fake engagement, paying or rewarding people for reviews, and review gating (filtering who gets asked based on their likely rating). Use the review link your profile provides, ask at the moment the job is finished, and reply to every review, including the critical ones, calmly and specifically.
Do you need Arabic pages for local SEO in Dubai?
Only if your customers search in Arabic, and many sectors in the UAE have customers who do. If you publish an Arabic version, give it its own URLs (for example a /ar/ folder), translate it properly rather than relying on raw machine output, and connect the versions with hreflang annotations such as ar-AE and en-AE. Google's documentation says it identifies a page's language from its visible content, so each version must genuinely be in that language.
On the website, build one strong page per service, mapped to the searches your customers make, and, where you serve distinct areas, area pages with real detail: projects completed there, travel times, local landmarks. A page that only swaps the area name is thin content. Our guide on making a website SEO-ready covers the site foundations.
The demand is real. When we pulled UAE keyword data from DataForSEO in August 2026, 'local seo dubai' alone showed around 320 searches a month, with an average cost per click above US$25. If you would rather hand the work over, that is what we do as an SEO specialist in Dubai: profile, site and citations run as one plan.
